LEGURA is a data perception studio creating expressionist system artworks.

We paint using information. Instead of relying on pre-established practices of data visualization, we approach system-building with a painter’s eye. Our artworks are accurate but intentionally imprecise. We love Tufte, but worship Twombly.

Vibrations in the input stream drive our artworks visually. Each layer is constructed using live data and highly domain-specific data transformations. We reject ornamentation. We do not use random().

Our systems are built with deep electro-mechanical sympathy and a decades-long computer engineering practice. Our algorithms are fast and run exclusively and natively on our client’s hardware. We do not use web browsers, blockchains, or looping video players.

The artworks we create are built to cohabit a physical space with their owner. Over time, the nervous system internalizes the work’s visual patterns, turning the artwork into an early warning system. Anomalies are felt without conscious effort.

Our work is organized in cycles, each exploring a different domain. As expertise is formed and systems are ideated, sketched, prototyped, implemented, and tested, a cycle of artworks begins to emerge over the course of several months. Each artwork is unique and is sold to exactly one buyer.

We operate in private. We curate a tight, direct correspondence with a select group of art connoisseurs and clients, and share our work intimately when the time comes. We do not show our work in static form, nor do we post about it on other people’s websites.

Finally, we believe that a visual artwork in the computational domain has to be a live system. “A system, running” is the artwork itself.

Thank you.
